India to provide essential medical supplies to 13 African Countries

Indian Government is sending a huge medical support to 13 African countries as a part of its humanitarian aid to the affected countries around the world.

The Print reported that on last Friday a meeting was held among senior officials from External Affairs, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and Invest India – the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency after which the decision to send medical relief to Africa was taken. 17 products that includes essential drugs, injections and medical devices are sent to all the 13 countries.

500 units of Thermometer, one lakh unit each of choloroquine, paracetamol and Ibuprofen and 2 lakh units of antibiotic and azithromycin are on the consignment. Along with this, an additional supply of anti-biotics, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-asthmatic and cardiovascular drugs and injections have been sent.

In April, India extended medical aid of the most-requested anti-malarial drug Hydroxycholoroquine to 55 countries (Some of them were sent on Humanitarian grounds and others were done commercial agreement)

A consignment of HCQ is being sent to Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Zambia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Congo, Egypt and Comoros. Consignments of paracetamol will be going to Zambia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Congo, Egypt, Eswatini, Chad, Republic of Congo, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe. The Print mentioned that some of the shipments are already sent.
