SSVM adopts Swachh Ward 64, announces revolutionary measures

Vellalore Dumping Yard, a 600 acre+ facility that is off the city limits is the place in which different sorts of solid wastes are piled every day. On a minimum level, 900 tonnes of waste are dumped in this yard on a daily basis. Residents near the area have asked for long.

Wastes generated by the people of Coimbatore aren’t managed well, and to point fingers at the corporation is not going to give solutions from heaven. A perpetual solution could be achieved if responsibility is jointly taken by people of all ages.

Towards such a destination, SSVM Institutions has started its journey, and as a first step towards a promising future, SSVM’s School of Excellence, near Uppilipalayam has adopted the Coimbatore Corporation’ Swachh Ward- Ward 64 today (03.02.2020), and announced many revolutionary measures to be of support to swachh bharat and guide students to be eco-friendly individuals. Shanthi Priya, Swachh Chief  Swachh Bharat Ambassador was the Chief Guest.

Manimekalai Mohan, Founder & Managing Trustee, SSVM Institutions said “Today is the official launch of the Adoption of Ward 64. As a part of it we are giving 10-15 push carts, few dustbins (green and blue bins), gloves. From tomorrow, we’ll provide the breakfast and water for the corporation workers of ward 64. Few students’ parents who are doctors have come forward to conduct health-screening for the workers in once in 15-days.”

“Most of you (the students) are here because of the cleanliness and the quality of education we offer. A majority of you live in Ward 64. While we keep the school clean, what role do you play in keeping the outside area of our school clean?” She asked the students. She wanted them to practice what they do in school, and not litter/throw away any waste, even if it is mere chocolate bar wrapper.

“Today I announce that all SSVM schools will have their Swachh Bharat Clubs, like NCC and NSS, and Our Swachh Bharat Club will become ambassadors of SSVM and you will be creating awareness among students” she added.

The Chief Guest in her address to students said “There are so many schools today. Schools can provide good facilities, knowledge, hygiene but SSVM has thought of keeping the surrounding clean.”

“Whatever you do, eat or what you throw everything has to have a count. You need to understand which waste is decomposable and which ones don’t. Have this in mind and start inculcating when you throw the wastes. Our generation has spoiled (nature) with plastic in the last 15 years. I request you to not do the same mistake. Take this (Swachh Bharat) as a challenge and protect the environment.”

During the occasion, the blue bag for putting dry wastes were introduced to the students.
