DMK leads in District panchayats, AIADMK leads in Panchayat Unions

The Tamil Nadu Local Body Election which was held in two phases in 27 districts on December 27 and 30, 2019 saw 2.31 lakh contest for 91,975 posts that includes Gram Panchayat Ward Member, President posts, Panchayat Union Ward Member, District Panchayat Union Members post.

In the first phase, 76.19 percent votes were registered and in the 2nd phase, 77.73 percent votes were registered. Ballot papers in 4 different colors were used instead of the electronic voting machines. In 315 centers votes are being counted.

Media reports at 2.00 p.m. mentioned that DMK leads in District panchayats, AIADMK leads in Panchayat Unions. The winners list are being announced gradually. Amidst all the tensions involved in this vote count in a few centers, Riya, DMK’s Candidate who competed for the Union Councillor post in Namakkal District won with a margin of 950 votes. She is the first transgender person to be councilor in Tamil Nadu.
