G.R.Karthikeyan  in his address said “At the time when we started this Nursing College, the hospital & medical college were in their infancy. It was very difficult to sustain them at that point of time and we thought we must have a nursing college so that we could have a lot supporting staff. Today Nursing has become an essential part of any medical college and for the hospitals.”

“We have covered 25 years as a Nursing College but when you look at the Nursing Establishment in India itself, it has improved a lot. With rapid growth in healthcare along with better health care facilities, there is an endless demand for nurses in India however there is a short supply of nurses to meet this growing demand. There are approximately 10.3 lac nurses enrolled in the nursing council but only 4 lac nurses are in active services. A huge majority have left due to retirement, marriage and mostly because of immigration. The government on its part is trying very hard to government impetus to the nursing sector.”

“There is a great demand for skilled nurses overseas. India has emerged as the major provider of nurses to foreign countries. A big reason for scarcity of nurses in the domestic sector is that they fly to foreign countries. Nurses are the 2/3rd of the heath workforce in India. Their center role in health care delivery in terms of promotion, prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation are highly significant. Nursing today has been through several changes, successes and challenges and nurses have endured their scope of work.”

“Research has demonstrated that well educated nursing workforce leads to better patient outcomes. The educationally abled the workforce, the better it is for the patients. Investing in a well-educated well-supportive workforce has measurable benefits.”

“Can a nurse become a doctor is the question in the hand. Presently there are no bridge course provided by the Indian Government for nurses to become doctors. There is a shortage of doctors in our country. This may develop in the later year soon as there is heavy demand medical practitioners in the country.”
