KMCH organizes 4th edition of CHRS EP Update

The Division of Cardiac-Pacing and Electrophysiology, KMCH organized the 4th edition of Covai Heart Rhythm Summit (CHRS) ‘EP UPDATE 2019′ recently.

The program saw eminent medical personalities highlighting the diagnosis and management of Brady Arrhythmia, Tachyarrhythmia and it also saw luminaries speak on Heart Failures and Implantable Cardiac Devices. Dr.M.Lawrance Jesuraj – Organizing Secretary of the Conference Said, “this year there is special focus on managing patients with advanced heart failure and we are organizing special workshop on implanting CRT (cardiac resynchronization device). Dr.Lazio geller, Professor of Cardiology at Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary was part of this meeting and workshop and gave his valuable insight into management of heart failure.

The idea behind CRT is simple: Restoration of the normal coordinated pumping action of the heart .This is accomplished by means of a unique type of cardiac pacemaker. Common pacemakers are typically used to prevent symptoms associated with excessively slow heartbeats. Most pacemakers typically have 2 wires or leads, one in the right atrium and one in the right ventricle, which permit the pacemaker to maintain the normal coordinated pumping relationship between top and bottom of the heart.

These leads are connected to a battery pack (pulse generator) placed under the skin in the upper chest. In addition to the 2 leads (right atrium and right ventricle) used by a common pacemaker, CRT pacemakers have a third lead that is positioned in a vein on the outer surface of the left ventricle. This allows the CRT pacemaker to simultaneously stimulate the left and right ventricles and restore a coordinated, or synchronous, pumping action. This is sometimes referred to as biventricular pacing because both ventricles are electrically stimulated (paced) at the same time.

More than 25 national faculties of fame and great academic credentials and more than 300 doctors participated in this conference.

Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami – Chairman, KMCH while inaugurating the conference explained the service rendered by Electrophysiology department which serves as the “need for the moment”. The whole citizen life is being ruled by “life style diseases”, there lies the responsibility of the KMCH to deliver the patient requirement according to their need. All diseases need not be a high risk surgical cases, some can be of noninvasive and some can be of balancing the rhythm. There exists the electrophysiology department at KMCH to serve the needy at right time.
