FOUNDERS DAY 2017 at Kumaraguru College of Technology

Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) celebrates the 94th birthday of its founder, Arutchelvar Dr.N.Mahalingam on March 20th and 21st 2017. KCT considers Founders Day as an occasion to remember the inspiring life of Arutchelvar Ayya, emulate his high thinking and simple living and work towards realizing his vision for an empowered, socially conscious humanity.

Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship and Achievers Award Ceremony:

The celebrations of Founders day commenced with the Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship (MGS) awarding ceremony. Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship was initiated by Arutchelvar, who valued the pursuit of merit perseverance and achievement greatly in students and was keen on nurturing these great attributes in them. For the year 2016-17, a total scholarship sum of Rs. One Crore Two Lakhs and Fifty Thousand (Rs.1,02,50,000) was distributed to the 1025 students. MGS had been awarded to the meritorious students every year since 2007. Parents of the proud students are also invited to be a part of this prestigious scholarship award. T. Ramalingam, the eminent advocate was the Chief Guest of the ceremony. Dr.B.K.Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, KCT, M. Balasubramaniam, Correspondent, KCT and Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent presided over the ceremony. Following the MGS award ceremony, the extraordinary achievements of KCTians are recognized through the KCT Achievers Awards. The best of the outgoing batch are awarded for their achievements in academics, sports, research and innovation. The Best Outgoing Student of the Year award is the most prestigious Student recognition in KCT.

Arutchelvar Dr.N.Mahalingam Award

Arutchelvar D. N. Mahalingam Award – which has been instituted in his honor to recognize the eminent accomplishments of individuals – is this year awarded to Sri Manuel Aaron tor his extraordinary contribution to the development of Chess game in India.

Dr.N.Mahalingam Chess Academy:

Arutchelvar Ayya was an ardent chess player. KCT honoring the legend for his passion towards chess has established Dr.N.Mahalingam Chess Academy in KCT to encourage the game in the region and to support aspiring chess players. For the encouragement of the chess game in the school level, the academy will introduce ‘Train the Trainer Model’. Former world chess champion, Viswanathan Anand inaugurated the Dr.N.Mahalingam Chess academy.

The Mahautsav also has other events such as: Student Project Expo, Inauguration of Jyothi Nilayam – the newly built guest facility in KCT. Thevarap Pannisaipotti and Bharanatiyam Performance & Laya Samarpanam by Grammy Award winner, Viku Vinayakram.
