PSG Hospital, in connection with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is organizing free breast cancer screening tests in the hospital the whole month. The hospital’s Oncology departments made the announcement on 04.10.2019 and held a press conference to convey the same.

A team of Oncology Specialists conveyed that Breast Cancer has become the most common cancer affecting women. They said women, when they find any abnormalities in their breasts, without any hesitation should consult a doctor at once. The team mentioned that the longer a woman delays consulting a doctor, the severe the effects of breast cancer will be. The specialists underlined that the cause of breast cancer cannot be precisely stated, although obesity, tobacco consumption and most of all ageing plays a significant role in formation of breast cancer.

They conveyed that women over 40 years of age face high risk of this type of cancer and if they or woman in their 20s and 30s find any changes in their breasts like a small lump, sudden water in the nipples, it is paramount that they check their breast’s health. They suggested that the survival rate would depend on at what stage women consult doctors.

Dr.T.Balaji, Project Director, Dept of Oncology, PSG Hospitals conveyed that awareness talks could be arranged to spread the message to any interested groups, educational institutions and women centric workplaces. PSG Hospitals, as a part of its contribution to combat breast cancer, is offering mammogram tests at a very nominal cost during this month.
