Govt Arts College tightens stance against plastic

Introduces innovative practices to make the campus plastic-free

Government Arts College, Coimbatore in a move to make the college completely plastic free, took a slew of measures and introduced innovative practices to bring an awareness among the students of the college and also to make the area plastic free.

Among the various changes, the college introduced paper-made ID cards and issued it to the students.  J.Sravan Kumar  IAS,Commissioner ,Coimbatore Municipal Corporation took part as the Chief Guest and handed over ID cards to students during the event held on 27.9.2019. Dr.K.Chitra, Principal of the college presided over the function.

He lauded the college as a role model to others in the state in plastic awareness for the many notable initiatives to make the campus eco-friendly such as -Change of carry bags into cloth bags in canteen, plastic dusters to cloth dusters, plastic tumblers to steel tumbler, plastic bodied ballpoint pen to ink pen and prohibition of plastic spiral binding covers in project reports.

While addressing students, J.Sravan Kumar asked the student- community to beat plastic pollution and emphasized the importance of rain water harvesting. The release of ID card was organized by Captain Dr.K.Vasanthi,  Asst professor of Economics,Government Arts College
