World Nature Conservation Day at The Western Ghats International School

World Nature Conservation Day was celebrated in our school by the Nature Club.  Dr. Sashi Kumaar Samraj, School secretary, presided over the function.  Ethirajalu, Project Director of Green Hands and Isha Agro of Isha Foundation, was the Chief Guest.

Anamika of Grade VI welcomed the gathering.  Lisha Jain, Secretary of Nature Club, introduced the Chief Guest.   Dharaneesh, President, Nature Club declared this academic year 2017-18 as ‘Year of No Plastic.’  He listed all the sustainable activities carried out by the members of the Nature Club in school and society.

Green Shop, with the vegetables and greens grown by the students, was inaugurated by the Chief Guest.  He also inaugurated the ‘Mushroom House’ – with mushrooms grown by students themselves.  Student volunteers, who cleaned Kurichi Kulam, were felicitated by the Chief Guest.

Alternative for the plastic in School and Home were introduced by the Chief Guest.  Students made a solemn pledge in avoiding plastic water bottle, plastic lunch box, and plastic covers.  A theme song on ‘No Plastic’ was sung by the students.  Guest introduced the ‘Cloth Bag’ created by the Craft Club as an alternative for plastic covers, which will be used for shopping groceries at home.

Nature club members staged a skit on the tedious work of farmers to grow rice for 132 days.  Subsequently, students pledged not to waste a single morsel of food.  Chief Guest delivered a special address on various aspects of conserving nature.

Students made a door to door campaign in Ettimadai and Chavadi residential areas and distributed pamphlets to avoid plastic.

Kids of Dora Montessori schools of Kovaipudur and Kuniamuthur also participated in the campaign in their respective areas.
