In places like Sirumugai, & Nehamam , handloom and weaving are done with great interest. The weavers here are extraordinarily skilled. We wanted to take the value of handloom clothes to the youngsters and that is how this competition was born.  53 colleges participated in this inter-college event. To win this event, the students had to wear traditional/handloom clothes, answer handloom related questions. 1650 students participated in this event and the best were honored.

We are very glad that the awareness about wearing handloom costumes is high among the current generation. The students didn’t just participate; they all have researched about handloom and I firmly believe that this generation will elevate the level of Handloom.  What I would everyone is, they should have at least 30% of handloom clothes in their entire collection.”
