The 55th All India Basketball Tournament for Men, organized by PSG Sports Club began on 9th August.
The tournament was inaugurated by G. Srinivasan, Managing Director, Srinivasan Associates Pvt. Ltd., in the presence of Dr. K. Prakasan, Principal (I/c), PSG College of Technology and Dr.Rudramoothy, President, PSG Sports Club & Director, PSG Care. The teams will play on league basis till 11th August 2019. The Semifinals & Finals will be on 12th & 13th August 2019 respectively. All the matches will be conducted at PSG TECH Indoor Sports Complex (Wooden Flooring). Daily 4 matches start from 5 p.m. onwards.
Eight leading teams from our Country have been selected for this men’s tournament. In Group “A” Chennai – Income Tax, Delhi – Indian Air Force, Kapurthala – RCF, Kerala – KSEB & Group “B” Delhi – Indian Army, Chennai – Indian Bank, Lonavala – Indian Navy and Chennai – Customs. All most all the top Indian players are playing in their respective clubs.
The winning teams in the Men section will be awarded cash prize as follows Winners Rs.1, 00, 000, Runners Rs.50, 000, Third Place Rs.25, 000 Fourth Place Rs.15, 000,Best player award Rs.10,000,Total – 2,00,000 Lakhs Cash Prize.
The first match of the tournament saw Indian Bank (IB) go against Indian Navy (IN). Indian Navy scored 91 points and defeated Indian Bank who managed to score 81 pts. Indian Bank had the upper hand in the first quarter. Hariram of IB added strong numbers and facilitated a rotation in the 1st qtr and the team scored 30 pts in the 1st qtr whil IN scored 11 pts.
But the Indian Navy picked up the pace in the 2nd quarter with Mahipal Singh scoring back to back 2pts. Although Muin Bek and Hariram teamed to do some magic, IB was losing its grip to a confident Gurwinder and Mahipal who lifted IN in the 2nd qtr.
With too many turnovers by IB and Hariram, the star of IB missing a few shots, Indian Navy was unseating Indian Bank slowly. 2nd Quarter score was (IB) 47-41 (IN).Muin Bek stepped up and his contribution added more points but Javed Khan of IN also stepped up. With the tough fight, Indian Navy came from behind in the 3rd qtr to score 66 pts while IB was just 2points ahead of them. The victory of the first match belonged to Indian Navy who won by 10 point lead, scoring 91 while Indian Bank scored 81.
