SIET students invent Air Purifier

Win Rs. 5 Lac cash at IICDC

The students of Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology have won Rs. 5 lakh cash price at India Innovation Challenge and Design Contest (IICDC) conducted by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India along with Texas Instruments and IIM Bangalore.

This competition was open to all the engineering students across the country. This competition was conducted for motivating the Engineering students in entrepreneurship and innovations.

Around 12500 colleges participated in the competition. The winning team of Sri Sakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology includes Bio-Medical students- V Priyanka, S. Menaka, R. Divani, S.Kathiresan and P Sejil won the price.

V.Priyanka  said that it is necessary for  water and food need to be pure .In the same way, air that we breathe  must be unpolluted. In the present conditions, it is difficult to breathe unpolluted air. Even in the houses, gaseous substances like carbon monoxide and Sulphur – di- oxide are present. These work against the physical well-being of the individual. Children as well as adults need to breathe pure air .Hence, we created the air purifier.

The available air purifiers in the market need to be installed in  the room and it would purify the air within the room. In this method, we cannot inhale fresh air. In our innovation, the air from outside will get purified and will be sent to the room. Due to this, we can inhale fresh air. We had to clear several rounds before we entered the finals. We were supported and motivated by our college Chairman S.Thangavelu, Secretary T. Sheelan Thangavelu, Principal Prakash, HOD  and teachers . Our college Labs electronics, biomedicals, Microbiology and the library departments have helped us immensely in our research.

“Due to Pollution, diseases like asthma, pneumonia, heart and respiratory illness set in. People living in the cities need to use air purifiers to inhale fresh air. We intend to sell the product at an affordable price .We are working towards that as our objective, said a student.
