L&T Valves, a wholly owned subsidiary of Engineering and Construction major Larsen & Toubro, has dedicated a renovated “Health & Wellness Centre”at Thirumampalayam, Madukkarai, Coimbatore, to the residents of the region. The facility was today formally handed over by the District Collector, Coimbatore, K Rajamani, in the presence of Dr. P.G.Bhanumathi, Deputy Director of Health Services, Mahesh Joshi, Chief Executive, L&T Valves as well as other local District & Health Department officials and representatives of L&T.
L&T Valves had undertaken the task of renovating the erstwhile Primary Health Centre(PHC) in Thirumampalayam, including electrical, plumbing & painting works and furnishing. The renovated Centrehas a four bedded postnatal care ward, dedicated dressing & store rooms, patient waiting area, washroom for patients, provision for clean drinking water as well as basic medical & surgical equipment. The improved infrastructure facilities created with CSR support ensured that the PHC, now upgraded asa Health &Wellness Centre,meets the guidelines.
Speaking on the occasion K. Rajamani, District Collector, Coimbatore, said, “Through the renovated PHC with CSR support from L&T Valves and now upgraded as a Health and Wellness Centre, rural residents including ANC/PNC mothers will be able to avail better services.These facilities will go a long way in contributing to improve the quality of healthcare delivery”. The Deputy Director of Health Services, Dr. P.G. Bhanumathi and the Chief Executive of L&T Valves, Mahesh Joshi, also addressed the gathering.
L&T Valves has been participating in the local district administration’s healthcare improvement endeavours, to lend a fillip to the Universal Health Coverage programme supported by both State and Central Governments. The Centre at Thirumalayampalayam, a Coimbatore suburb was selected for support by L&T Valves in the year 2018-19, as a part of its flagship ‘Rural Health Development Project’, launched in 2016. Prior to this, L&T Valves had extended CSR support to improve infrastructure and medical facilities of Primary Health Centres at Arisipalayam and Vellalore.
On the occasion,it was declared that L&T Valves would be extending similar CSR support to improve infrastructure & medical facilities at the Govt. Hospital, Madukkarai, during the current financial year. The District Collector appreciated the social development interventions of L&T as a whole in the areas of education, health, vocational skill training and watershed, and assured full support for successful implementation of such programmes.
