Indian Author of Intl. fame turns 85 tomorrow

The name is Bond… Ruskin Bond. Many do not know that Ruskin Bond is an Indian writer. It is obvious not just because of his fair skin, but due to his true parentage. He was born in the year 1934 on May 19 to Edith Clarke and Aubrey Bond in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh.  His mom was separated and she remarried an Indian which makes Ruskin’s nationality Indian.

He spent his childhood by the hill side and his works were influenced by his life in the hill stations. He frequented the hill sides in his native. When he was 17, he wrote his first novel The Room on the Roof which won the John Llewellyn Rhys Memorial Prize in 1957. He has written 29 novels, 500 short stories and 40 books exclusively for children with a writing career that spans over 50 years.

He grew up in Gujarat, Dehradun and New Delhi and for his outstanding contribution to the field of literature he was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award, the Padma Shri Award and the Padma Bhushan.
