Young Tennis Star defeats Roger Federer, shows modesty.

The 25 year old Dominic Thiem from Austria etched his name in history at Indian Wells, California when defeated the legendary Roger Federer to take home his first Indian Wells Masters Open Championship. He defeated Federer on 3-6 6-3 7-5 set count and was in utter surprise that he has toppled one of Tennis’ juggernauts.

Federer took control of the opening and his serves were hard for the young star to handle but Thiem, a baseline specialist remained focused in his initial shortcomings and went back and forth, unleashing swifter serves that  Federer could roger it.

Post the match, Thiem was very much down to Earth and said to Federer that it was such a pleasure to compete and learn so much from him, and to play with one of the biggest legends of all time. He acknowledged that Federer is a titan and said “it’s not my right to congratulate you, you have 88 more titles than me, so I’m just hoping you play more and we can have some other big finals”

Federer on the other hand exhibited solid sportsmanship and was not taken down by the defeat and assured to give his best in the upcoming Miami Open.
