International Yoga Day was celebrated by the ‘Health and Hygiene’ Club of the Western Ghats International School. Hemalatha Sashikumar, Correspondent, presided over the function. The Nanammal,98 years old, the recipient of the prestigious ‘Sakthi Award’ from the President of India, was the chief guest. She demonstrated several asanas and her son Balakrishnan of Ozone Yoga Institute explained the significance of every asana. The Western Ghats International School Correspondent presented ‘Pride of Coimbatore’ Award to Nanammal for her exemplary contribution in spreading yoga.
Students enthusiastically clarified lot of doubts of performing Yoga. There was a standing ovation when the guest performed complicate asanas at this age with ease. Nanammal shared the students with pride that she has trained more than 1000 Yoga trainers and 117 Yoga students have achieved gold medals at national and international level competitions. Students & teachers pledged in the presence of the guest to practice yoga daily.
